I am a lover of Jesus, the wife of a former Marine, and a mother to six children. It is always an blessed adventure. (Send Chocolate! ha!)
We live a rural-ish area in North Texas on 5 acres with a flock of chickens and ducks and hopefully a few goats will be joining us this year. I am slowly learning to work parts of the land and grow some herbs, fruits, and vegetables for my family. I long to revive homesteading skills that most of our great-grandparents probably knew about to help feed and care for their family just a few generations ago. (Although I tend to put my own spin on them to make them just a little bit healthier when I can.)
A few fun facts about me:
I am a total health nut. I love cooking with whole foods and I love learning about natural healing. At any moment, you can find several of my cabinets and shelves full of essential oils, homeopathy, and plenty of mason jars of bulk dried herbs.
My great-great-great-grandfather drove his kids in a covered wagon to an area west of Ft. Worth, Texas and settled down in the late 1800’s. I love when my Nana tells me stories about the “old days” and what her mama told her about growing up “Laura Ingalls style”.
I was a military kid and traveled the world with my family before finally coming back home to Texas and putting down roots again with my husband. Most Texans will give me a pass for being out of state for so long because it was related to military service. If you know, you know. It’s a Texas Thing.
I love being thrifty and repurposing old things. Wood, silverware, clothing, furniture, and I even love finding old recipes and putting my own (healthier) spin on them.
I usually have at least a dozen ideas floating around in my head at any given moment so it’s a always incredibly rewarding to see a plan I wrote down, actually come together and how much I learn in the process of making it happen.
I love dark chocolate. I love a little bit of coffee in my cream with a drizzle of raw maple syrup on top. Yum! And I adore being silly with my kids…. no matter how big they get.
Thank you so much for stopping by our homestead-in-the-making!
